Jill and I dressed up
in the silk pajamas
sent to us
from Aunt Rose in San Francisco
Grandma braided black stockings
that hung down our necks - queue-like
she pinned these
to our temporarily darkened blonde hair
applied copious amounts of eyeliner
and tiny touches of pink lipstick...

furthermore suggests
that I have consumed large amounts of sugar products
successfully disguised as:
a beatnik
with black beret, gray sweatshirt, bongos
and cigarette holder;
a clown
(judging by the photos) - inspired by a perm gone bad
and a hippie
anything went here - (ahem),
and somehow
(Mom???) cheeks were always rouged...
my son who turns 16 tomorrow
is - at this very moment
Superman in a Clark Kent suit
(no rouge)
he once was:
Harry Potter
a dead ringer you might say,
a mad scientist
orange wig, a stick-on mustache variety pack
(luckily he carried the extras in the candy sack
as they had a habit of dropping off the sugar-coated upper lip)
and various other mixed personaes
yesterday we stacked wood
today I gathered stones
on a warmish hazy beach
happy Halloween...
