how to have your oranges and eat them too...

roll-ups

roll-ups are the answer

I am in love with blood oranges

in all ways

slice them thinly

place the slices on a perforated pizza pan

flip frequently on the wood stove

what have you got?

radiant rubies

but

perhaps

you can not resist

eating

a slice

or a segment or two

well,

roll 'em up!

roll up the rind

bind tightly

with waxed linen thread

let dry

and - voila - blood orange roll-ups!

hints of hot pink, cream-sickle

and sunshiny marigold

aren't they yummy?

is the magnet

like a moth to flame

gravitating

toward the fire

the wood stove

the things that sing

from the blue heat

that diamond place

of radiance

the center

the ground

circling

rotating

dancing dervish...

every day walks

walking daily

daily walks - moving vigorously through space

the big loop or just the little one

this is my practice

this is how I think

this is

what I do everyday

but now

as the sunshine and warm temperatures

seduce me out

the ice

has made this daily given

trecherous

while negotiating a round-about the ice

I went splat - oh I am ever so careful

no injuries

but dang

this ice

has me cornered

and it might be awhile...

so

I'm eating the blood oranges

treasure...

I always find treasure on my walks

thankfully my parka has plently of pockets

but I always wish

that I had stuffed a grocery bag

in one of those pockets

yesterday

was a day of bundling up collections

of treasured things

tea dyed tags

on rusty

circled silks

chai bundles

and bones

maybe it is this odd winter

of circling around the ice

but I am smitten

with bundling

and gathering

circling round

the bundles

a drawing in close

a sensual love

for the odd, the found, the potentially discarded

but also

there are the treasures

that don't fit into my pockets

the quiet

sitting spots

the snow hearts

the tracks of wing-ed things

taking flight...

and the treasure

of your e-mails, notes and comments

here and here

I am entranced

by the loveliness

of mark making

with tea and oranges

binding up the tinies

richly aromatic, tactile, warm...

bloodorange...

yesterday I got pretty excited

when I discovered the pink bloom

left by pressing the blood orange

in between the pages of the chai book

the bleached circle from the lime was cool too

but I'll save that for another day

as it often happens

one thing

led to another

and another

sunshine

and a string of ideas

brought out the basket of mini clothes pins

the string of course

and the eucalyptus dyed silk

circles, squares,

a grid of sunshine

all woogity,

warm and deLIGHTful...
